Overwatch for a non-FPS gamer

July 6, 2016

I recently purchased Overwatch for the Playstation 4 (PS4). Let me start by saying, I am not a First Person Shooter/ FPS gamer.  I have played Counter-Strike (CS) 1.6 back in the day when I was a wee lad, and realized that my kill-to-death ratio was 1 to 20 on average.  I died 20 times and maybe killed one person in those 20 deaths.  I gave up and swore off FPS gaming for years.

That being said, this game may change my mind.  I have only played the game for a few hours and have not tried out all the character types yet, and am already enjoying myself.  I have been playing as Hanzo and Tracer and trying to stay true to the games form on how to play these two characters.  I am not at all good with any of the “special” moves/characteristics and tend to forget to use them.

I have been playing the game like I did CS and follow formation, shoot and hide, run around, hide somewhere else, shoot some more, etc.  I have been doing pretty good.  Not nearly as well as others in the game, but enough for me to enjoy without dying 20 times before I get my first kill.

The controls are very easy to use and smooth.  I don’t have to hit 100 different buttons in order to crouch-shoot-roll-swipe-dive etc. The maps are a little confusing for me, but feel in time I will get used to them and learn the layout.

In the end, I am happy to have picked up this game and use it to try and get back in the FPS world.  Maybe at some point I can roll with the Call of Duty crowd or Battlefield groups. Only time will tell.

I will write an updated post after I get a bit further in the game.
