Being an avid player of Clash Royale for the past 2 years, I have endured the grind of progressing through the game, working the ladder and playing the special events. This game is the first mobile game to really capture me, it possesses all the attributes that I look for in a mobile game, a quick player that I can come and go as I please, strategy in learning the different meta’s and the rush of a good battle. One of the events that I looked forward to on a weekly basis was the Clan Chest. This event that runs weekly from Friday through Sunday night gives your clan the ability to work through a progression of chest tiers, you and your clan mates work together to get to the BIG prize of ten out of ten chests. The individuals who get the most crowns get the bigger bounty for the week, this was a great drive for me to work to get the cards I in my deck the best chance of powering up.
But earlier this week Supercell announced that in the next update they will be removing the Clan Chest from the game with the promise of “something bigger to come”. Below is an excerpt from their press release:
As you may have guessed from the title, we’re removing the Clan Chest from Clash Royale in the next update. However, all of the rewards that the Clan Chest gives will be pumped into another feature.
Is this new feature going to be Clan Wars? What would this game mode entail? Will it fill the void of what Clan Chest is leaving behind?
While Supercell hasn’t given solid confirmation that Clan Wars are coming in the next update, the compass is pointing like they are, especially considering the delays. The Clan Wars feature has been talked about since the beginning of the year. In a February Reddit Q & A, they did say Clan Wars were the development team’s main focus right now.
We don’t know what Clan Wars will entail because, In a brief conversation on the official Clash Royale Discord server, Community Manager Tim Smith let players know that not only has this month’s update been delayed, there will also be no sneak peeks ahead of its release. He added that they were looking for this to be a surprise for everyone.
It’s no secret that the community is not happy with Supercell, with their delays, promises, and stagnation of the game, but the hope is among the circles that this will help bring players back to the game.
In the end, only time will tell and the update itself will have to kick ass for that to happen. We talk about Clash Royale in a few episodes on the show.
